Day Twenty-one - Buy an Artist Gift

Today our prompt is to purchase an artist gift for ourselves. Have you ever heard of this concept?

I’m sure I had been practicing this on my own for several years before I read Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way, but in that book she talks about the importance of celebrating our creativity by purchasing small “artist gifts” that nurture our creative side.

We are usually quick to pick up treasures for our kids or something cute for a friend, but when it comes to adding a trivial pen to our basket, we stop. Today, we’re going to add that proverbial (or real!) pen to our basket and allow ourselves to enjoy it.

Now, I’m not talking about going on a shopping spree and going crazy. I’m talking about picking up that item—you probably already know what it is—that you would like to treat yourself to but haven’t found a reason to yet. This is about honoring and nurturing your creative side.

Maybe you’ve had a creativity book in your shopping cart on Amazon for two months. Maybe you noticed a cute bookmark the other day at the store . . . whatever it is, today is your day to treat yourself to something meaningful to you.

Have fun finding your artist gift!
